Overview
The FUYL™ Smart Locker System can be configured to allow users to quickly authenticate at a FUYL Kiosk using a Login ID, a barcode or an RFID tag. These options provide faster access compared to SSO authentication.
Each method is its own user login method in the FUYL Portal, and each relies on its own attribute being provisioned from the identity provider:
| Login method | How the user authenticates | Provisioned attribute |
|---|---|---|
| Login ID | Enters an alphanumeric value, e.g. an employee number | login_id |
| Barcode | Scans the barcode on their ID card with the FUYL Kiosk iPad’s camera | barcode_credential |
| RFID | Taps their RFID tag on the Locker’s reader (see RFID Authentication) | rfid_credential |
Administrators are always given the option to authenticate either on the Kiosk or on a personal device (via a QR scan or a URL & confirmation code), regardless of the login method configured for users.
Common Examples
Examples of suitable attributes include, but aren’t limited to:
- Employee number
- Student ID number
- Student or employee ID card with a barcode
- Building access RFID card
Benefits and Limitations
Faster authentication: Login ID, Barcode and RFID methods can be significantly quicker than using a username and password to authenticate.
Security trade-off: While faster, these methods are less secure compared to more robust authentication methods like SSO with MFA.
Using Login ID, Barcode or RFID
When a device user initiates a workflow at the FUYL Kiosk, they will be presented with a sign-in screen for the configured login method.
Login ID entry: Users input their Login ID (e.g., employee number) to authenticate.
Barcode scanning: The FUYL Kiosk iPad’s camera is used to scan the barcode from the user’s ID card (e.g., student or employee card).
RFID: Users tap their RFID tag (e.g., a building access card) on the reader. A beep confirms a successful read, and the user then returns to the Kiosk to continue.
The system is designed to be intuitive and quick for users, particularly in high-traffic scenarios.
Set Up Login ID, Barcode & RFID login
To enable Login ID, Barcode or RFID login, Provisioning must be set up and configured to map the matching attribute (login_id, barcode_credential or rfid_credential). See the SSO & Provisioning guide for more.
Process
Login ID
- Open FUYL Kiosk Login In the FUYL.io Portal, navigate to Settings > FUYL Kiosk Login. The settings button is found in the bottom left of the FUYL Portal interface.

- Instruction: define custom instructions for locating a user’s Login ID, e.g. “Find your Staff ID on the back of your security pass”.
- Save and test Save, and test authentication at the FUYL Kiosk.

rfid_credentialprovisioning. - Customise the sign-in instruction (optional) Under Configure RFID sign in, define a custom prompt, e.g. “Tap your ID Card against the reader”.
- Save and test Save, and test authentication at the FUYL Kiosk.
RFID also needs the RFID readers configured, and a test read is recommended. See RFID Authentication for more information.
